An Art Studio Play Date is a fun and creative way for children to spend time with a friend while making art. Whether families are planning around after-school time, half days, School Break Days, or summer schedules, the studio gives friends a creative place to meet, make art, and enjoy time together.
Some of our Art Studio 760 families have already come up with a wonderful idea: coordinating art class with another family and turning it into an Art Studio Play Date.
The idea is simple. Two friends sign up for the same class, get dropped off for a couple of hours, and spend time creating together.
A Creative Outing, Right Here at the Studio
An Art Studio Play Date gives children more than a place to meet up. They get to spend time in a welcoming creative space, explore the Art Studio 760 supply wall, choose from different materials, browse the lounge/library, and follow their own ideas with guidance along the way. It has the feeling of a mini creative adventure — part art class, part studio visit, part imagination day.
During class, each student works on a personalized project based on their interests and skill level. One child might be drawing animals, another might be designing a character, painting on canvas, building with mixed media, or experimenting with a new material. They still get the fun of being with a friend, but they are also learning, practicing, making choices, and developing their own creative voice.
By the end of the session, students leave with more than a memory of a fun Play Date. They bring home a one-of-a-kind piece of artwork they created themselves — and often, a new idea they are excited to keep working on when they come back to the studio.
The best part is that students often feel like they are just playing, creating, and having fun with a friend — and they are. But underneath all of that fun is a meaningful educational foundation. Art Studio 760 is rooted in the Studio Habits of Mind, an art education philosophy that helps students observe, experiment, develop skills, reflect, persist, imagine, and grow as creative thinkers.
So, the next time your child asks about a Play Date, this might be a great question to ask: Who would your child like to invite to the studio?
There are several ways to turn Art Studio 760 into a creative Play Date:
After School Art Play Date
Friends can sign up for the same after-school art class from 4–6 PM and create together.
School Half Day Art Play Date
Some schools have half days, and those can be a great opportunity for an extended creative Play Date at the studio.
School Break Day with a Friend
A School Break Day can become a fun friend day with more time for projects, creative exploration, lunch, and studio time.
Summer Program with a Friend
The Summer Program is also a great way for friends to spend time together during the summer while staying creative.
One thing that makes Art Studio 760 flexible for families is that students can register one session at a time. Families can choose the date that works best for their schedule, and each student receives individualized attention and a lesson plan that can be shaped around their interests.
Thank You for Sharing the Studio
Every Art Studio 760 student receives a small rewards card shaped like an artist palette. Each time a student comes to class, one of the little paint colors on the palette gets punched. When all the colors on the palette are punched, the student receives a free class.
When a new student joins us, they’ll receive their own rewards card, too. And as a special thank you for helping share the studio, your child will receive a bonus punch on their rewards card.
It’s a simple way to invite a friend into the creative fun, keep studio friendships going, and give children a meaningful place to spend time together.
